North American Specifications
which means the versions of common Land Rover sent to the USA and Canada, with small modifications due to stupid differences in the protectionist regulations of North America.
Numbers: no less than 16,000 Series flied to the US (inc. Canada) between 1948 and 1974. A few 101FC can been seen (around a dozen maximum). Will follow 6,400 Land Rover coiled frame in 90 wheelbase and only 500 Land Rover 110.
The 88 Series NAS: the 88" has ben imported till 1974
How to identify a NAS leaf sprung Land Rover: just few differences existed at this time. Only lamps are different. Blinkers front and rear are specific to the imported models. It could be quite easy to distinguish but many US owners fitted back the European lamps to get back the natural european look.
The 109 Series NAS: it was imported in the US (inc. Canada) till 1968. For identification, see above.
Le 109 NAS : has been imported as well in the USA (inc. Canada) till 1968. See above to recognise it (same than 88").
Le 90 NAS : the best Defender Ever Made !
In 1993, 3,100 vehicles were imported in the USA and later on, another 500 in 1995. They stopped to be imported but later in 1996 another 2,500 Defender 90 followed (inc. 1,500 soft top). At end of 1997, only 300 Defender Station Wagon were imported with the amazing addition of the auto gearbox, for the first time in the world ! In Europe, just the rare 50th Anniversary existed with such an option and 3,9L V8 engine. In the USA, during 1997, all Defender have them as standard !
Below, a 1994 nice 90 NAS in "portfolio red" :
Below: another 90 NAS from 1995, with the 3,9L and autogearbox... and all genuine accessories available in the Land Rover optional spares. This vehicle is a toy for rich people in the USA since rare... and then extremly expensive.
Below: a wonderful exemplar in Beluga White, 1997.
Le 110 NAS : only 525 of this long wheelbase version were imported in the USA (inc. 50 for Canada). Oh yeah, a rarity, for sure ! To recognise the beast, easy. It is the only Land Rover to be sold with full roll cage and all the followings, as standard ! Engine 3,9L V8 only, with manual gearbox only. Aircon and steel rims only. In white, only. The external roll cage is from Safety Device in white, full bull bar, front and rear specific bumpers, Land Rover genuine sidesteps... for what ? Just to pass the severe US crash-tests ! A few details regarding the blinkers and that's it, you have maybe one of the most collector existing in the world. The rare 110NAS available on the market are bought at heavily-high prices !
Below, a 1993 exemplar (no11) living in the Colorado, strictly genuine. Was sold in the USA in October 2002 (only 400 are still in rolling order as today, according to unofficial sources).
