La Land-Rover la moins chère est sans doute la SIIA, en raison du fait que mécaniquement, elle est peu évoluée, comparée à la SIII, tout en n'étant pas encore completement une icône de collectionneur, comme la Series I.
Celà explique son acquisition en 1996, pour la somme de 25 000 Frf.
Passé le permis à 18 ans, enfin vient le moment d'acheter une première automobile. Evidemment, celle ci ne peut, ne doit, être qu'une Land Rover. La SIIA entrant au franc près dans le budget, elle devient l'élue exclusive pour 3 années de découverte de Jeune Conducteur. Rêve ou cauchemar ?
Cauchemar au début. Car la petite SIIA a été retapée par " Land 01 " dans les environs de Mâcon, selon des méthodes peu orthodoxes. Seul l'aspect visuel est favorisé, laissant de côté des points importants comme la transmission, le moteur, la carburation. Toutefois, il faut noter que l'ensemble tient la route, puisque 8 ans après, elle roule encore. Et roulera encore longtemps.
Rêve réalisé quelques années plus tard car la SIIA ne subit quasiment plus de réparation, ayant retrouvé une santé acceptable pour les 2000 km annuels exigés.
Durant la première année, tout sera repris,à grand renfort de subventions parentales. Nouveau carburateur, allumage, circuit d'essence, dynamo, régulateur... Malgré ces déboirs, elle ne refusera jamais une mission et roulera tous les jours, étant ma première et unique voiture durant 3 longues années. Elle sera ensuite aidée dans sa tâche par une voiture normale...
Pour son histoire à elle... J'ai réussi à remonter dans le temps avec une photocopie de l'ancienne carte grise. Achetée en Suisse en 1963, elle commence sa vie dans une exploitation agricole de taille moyenne, dans le canton de Vaud. Et par chance, cet exploitant conservera durant 30 longues années la Land Rover à son service. Mais un contrôle technique sonne le glas de la belle...
Elle est revendue la somme de 400 CHF à Land 01.
Importée en France par Land 01 en piteux état, après 30 années de dur labeur dans les champs et les marchés de fruits et légumes, elle connaitra alors le début de sa seconde vie. J'ai donc eu la chance d'acheter 30 ans après, une Land Rover de "première main".
La Series IIA sera rejointe 8 ans plus tard par un second Land Rover en la personne d'un magnifique Defender 50ème Anniversaire. Leur débat favori est d'ailleurs d'arriver à déterminer qui consomme le plus de carburant...

As soon as the driving licence obtained, time is coming to look for a first car... of course it can only be, it must only be a Land Rover. The 88" SIIA fits exactly with the budget and then becomes the exclusiv car used for three long years of young drivership. Dream or nightmare ?
Well, to be honest, nightmare when it began. Cause the small SIIA had been fixed by Land 01 at the cheapest option possible which means often leaving aside important components like transmission, engine and carburator. All right, it has been running this way for 13 years and that means that it was not so bad.
The dream came later with a now totally fixed car which will now require few money.
During the first year, everything will be checked, thanks to parents' subsidies. New carb, new petrol tubing, dynamo, tension regulator... In despite of these troubles she will never refuses a mission and will drive every requested day, being the only car for three years. She will then receive help from a "normal" car.
For her own history ? I managed to travel in the past thanks to a copy of the old ownership documentation. I then discover that whe had been bought in 1963 in Switzerland by a farmer and worked during 30 years in a mid size farm in the Vaud county. By chance, this first owner will keep her for 30 long years in duty. But in 1995, an MOT says "too much" and the Landy has to be sold.
Land 01 buys her for... 400CHF (around 300 EUR).
Imported in France by Land 01 in a bad shape, after 30 years of heavy duty in the champs and fruits-vegetable markets, she will then have a new start. I then was lucky to buy a "second hand" 1963 Land Rover...
The SIIA, 8 years later, will be assisted by another Land Rover, a wonderful Defender 50th Anniversary. Their most favorit debate is to try to determinate who has the hugest fuel consumption...
